Jose’s AmaMagna River Cruise: European Culture, Cuisine, & Natural Beauty

By Jose Ferreira

As we stood on the deck of the AmaMagna, Amy and I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. We were about to embark on a journey from Vilshofen to Budapest, exploring some of Europe's most breathtaking scenery and experiencing its rich cultural heritage.

Amy and I were really impressed by the ship’s luxurious aesthetic. A clean and modern design with blonde wood is naturally relaxing. Our stateroom was huge, with ample storage and a wonderful bed.

We enjoyed a range of activities catering to all vacation styles, including walks, hikes, bike rides, lectures, musical performances, and wine tastings.

Bon Voyage

As we set sail from Vilshofen, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the Bavarian town, with its charming half-timbered houses and picturesque riverfront. We glided down the Danube River, passing lush forests, rolling hills, and quaint villages, each with its own unique character and history.

One of the trip's highlights was our stop in Passau, where we had the opportunity to explore the city's ornate baroque architecture and visit the stunning St. Stephen's Cathedral. We also climbed up to the Oberhaus Fortress, where we were rewarded with sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.

As the cruise continued, we enjoyed breakfasts, lunches, and dinners aboard the ship. Excellent quality and lots of choices!

Destination: Wachau Valley

The AmaMagna sailed through the Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its terraced vineyards and medieval castles. We stopped in charming towns like Durnstein, where we strolled through the cobblestone streets and visited the Kuenringer Castle, which dates back to the 16th century.

One of the trip's highlights was our time in Vienna, a city known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning architecture. We visited magnificent palaces and museums and enjoyed a special strings concert in the evening.

Another stop led us to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Here, we explored the city's medieval Old Town and visited the imposing Bratislava Castle, which overlooks the Danube River.

Finally, we arrived in Budapest, the stunning Hungarian capital known for its thermal baths, impressive parliament building, and rich history. We explored the city's many sights and attractions, including the Fisherman's Bastion, Matthias Church, and the iconic Chain Bridge.

As the cruise came to an end, Amy and I felt grateful for the opportunity to explore Europe's scenic waterways in such comfort and style. The AmaMagna and its wonderful crew created a truly unforgettable river cruising experience combining the best European culture, cuisine, and natural beauty.

Next up: I’m looking forward to the UnCruise Alaska cruise on May 13!
