A Passage in India
Our adventure began in the energetic city of Mumbai, where ancient culture meets modern hustle. One of our first stops was the Elephanta Caves, a mystical place carved out of rock and filled with intricate depictions of Hindu gods — a fitting introduction to the country, where over 80% of the population practices Hinduism.
Mumbai’s colonial legacy is visible everywhere, from its stately architecture to the vibrant markets. We strolled past the famous Gateway of India, marveled at the city’s traditional open-air laundromats, and watched the ingenious lunchbox carrier system in action — a true showcase of Mumbai’s organized chaos.
Next, we headed to Udaipur, my personal favorite city in India! The majestic City Palace stretches for a full kilometer along the edge of a sparkling lake.

City Palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. This sprawling complex of palaces was built over nearly 400 years by successive rulers of the Mewar dynasty, starting in 1553.
I was captivated by the tales of the maharajas who once called the palace home. We enjoyed a boat ride around the lake, gliding toward the royal family’s summer retreat — a castle sitting on an artificial island, where enchantment seems to float on the water.
Our journey continued to Agra, a city steeped in history and drama as part of India's Golden Triangle. Seeing the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world, was nothing short of astounding. Its sparkling white marble and mesmerizing symmetry exceeded all my expectations — a true highlight of the trip. We also wandered through Agra Fort, where Mongol rulers lived before relocating their capital to Delhi.
In New Delhi, India’s bustling capital and largest city, I discovered unexpected serenity amid sprawling green spaces. Taking a rickshaw ride through the crowded markets was a thrilling experience — narrow streets packed with people and goods, all swirling in a controlled frenzy. It was an adrenaline rush and gave me insight into the city’s vibrant spirit.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Humayun’s Tomb is a celebrated example of Mughal architecture and was commissioned in 1569–1570 by Humayun’s wife, Empress Bega Begum.
Our final Indian destination was Jaipur, the “Pink City,” famed for its grand palace that occupies a seventh of the city’s total area! Jaipur dazzled us with its famed textiles and jewels, and we watched local artisans at work, crafting rugs, scarves, and jewelry with astonishing skill.
We also toured the striking Amber Fort, where the current maharaja resides — a living piece of history!

A Taste of Nepal
After the whirlwind of India, Nepal greeted us with gentle landscapes and a relaxed pace. Though similar in some ways, it had its own unique, calming vibe.
Renowned for the Himalayan mountain range and the legendary Mt. Everest, Nepal is a trekker’s paradise. We didn’t have time for a multi-day hike, but soared around Everest on a scenic flight — an unforgettable, awe-inspiring experience.

In Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, we immersed ourselves in a fascinating blend of Hindu and Buddhist traditions.
Exploring grand temples and the beautifully adorned monasteries, we discovered the Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist temples outside Tibet, painted with vibrant colors and peaceful carvings. It is one of Nepal’s holiest sites and a major center of Buddhist pilgrimage, especially for Tibetan Buddhists.
Chitwan National Park: Into the Wild
Our adventure continued in Chitwan National Park, located in Nepal’s southwest flatlands. With mountains faintly visible on clear days, this region is celebrated for some of Asia’s best wildlife viewing.
While the elusive tigers didn’t make an appearance, we were treated to the sight of a mother rhino and her calf instead.

We embarked on two jeep safaris, a walking safari, and a sunset boat ride. The walking safari was a favorite! I bushwhacked through elephant grass towering up to 15 feet high and trekked through wild jungle, feeling like a true explorer in search of adventure.
