Almost all of us dream of some day crossing the ocean and visiting Ireland. Our Coon Rapids Travel Agent Spotlight on Ireland by Mallory Hershey will help you envision your trip to the Emerald Isle.
Exploring Northern Ireland
On this trip, I wanted to see the other lesser known side of Ireland – Northern Ireland. In Belfast, the history is deep. I took a Black Cab Tour with a private driver guide. Hearing the history of conflict between the Irish and British and how it has affected the daily lives of those that live in Northern Ireland was so interesting. The “Peace” wall still stands to separate the two neighborhoods. This was one of the best tours I’ve ever experienced and I’d recommend it to everyone.
Experiencing the Coastal Scenery
Next, we took a road trip as we drove away from Belfast following the Coastal Causeway Route. This is considered one of the most scenic drives in the world. Driving on the left side of a winding coastal road proved to be an adventure in itself. There were so many great spots to see along the way. On this north coast, Giants Causeway is the most windy spot in all of Ireland. At this site, rocks formed from millions of years of volcanic activity into interlocking columns that look unreal.
On Location with the Game of Thrones
Many sites in Northern Ireland are gaining popularity as they were used in the filming of Game of Thrones. Another stop on the route is the Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge and the Dark Hedges. The Rope Bridge connects the main land from a former hotspot for Salmon fishing. Crossing that bridge while it’s windy was a little crazy, and of course, I had to look down! The Dark Hedges another gorgeous spot on the trek, were made famous from Game of Thrones and now you’ll see people stopping to take pictures in front of these gorgeous trees.
Customize your Ireland Trip
Overall, Ireland and Northern Ireland has so much to offer. I could go back again and again and still experience new sights every time. The shades of green you see are unbelievable – it’s hard to believe how beautiful the countryside is. Whether it’s a golf trip, relaxing spa vacation, adventure of hiking and biking, or experiencing as many local pubs as you can, the vacation options in Ireland are never-ending.
